Wasting A Weekend
17 09 2006My research on XHTML and CSS is complete, and I’ve started work on the next version of theMediaman.com. Hopefully the antiquated Blogger interface will be updated by then to the Gmail text input interface or else I’ll have to move to another system.
Right now I’m sitting on my computer at work on a Sunday, waiting for edits to come from the client. Might be minutes, might be hours. Historically, the latter is the case.
Saturday night, Simone and I took John and Seiko out for dinner at La Bruchetta. It’s Seiko’s favourite place so we took her there as her birthday gift. Small, family run place, with a very nice Italian menu and a very good selection of wine.
John and Seiko went home after dinner. Back at the apartment, Simone had to finish up a major project that’s to go live next week. More of that “waiting for client feedback” B.S. Seems to be a recurring theme for this weekend.
Paul had the evening free, so he came down for drinks at my new favourite drinking hole, Ciros. Just as he arrived, we got a call from Hwan and the threesome turned into an impromptu party. Here’s a couple of links in order to cover some of the loose threads created by the conversations last night:
The Granite Brewery - Brewery and restaurant at Mount Pleasant and Eglinton. Ribs smell awesome, but weren’t very good when I tried them. Favourite brew: Peculiar
Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors - Opening video here. Other series discussed include Dungeons & Dragons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Jem and the Holograms.
The Host - which despite showing at TIFF, will probably not be released in North America. I was going to see if there’s a better trailer but the last 10 seconds of the teaser just freaked me out. Also, Ring 0 and Understanding The Ju-on (Grudge) Series. As much as I love Asian horror, I’m starting to get bored with the predictable suspense:
1) Look a little nervous
2) Look terrified at something just off screen
3) Hold…
4) Hold…..
5) Hold…….
6) Something sudden and scary happens.
7) Next scene, go to step 1.
Chimay Trappist Beer - So far I’ve had the Red (ultra-sweet) and the white (very bitter). Next is the 9.0% blue! Made by monks in Belgium. Christianity rules!
