ZX2 Ontario and a 29 Year Old’s Potential

1 06 2005

Looks like the Forum for Team ZX2 Ontario has lost about a year’s worth of posts. Turns out they were hacked.

EZboard has always been really crappy software, and the club has had to pay for ad-free service… however, the ad-free service seems to be the only benefit, since the server regularly crashes.

I’ve set up a PHPbb before, but they’re similarly prone to hacks… especially since they’re very popular and can be found by a simple web crawl. I’m not sure I want to expose my relatively static web site’s contents to a security hole like PHPbb.

Of course, that’s one website of about a dozen that I need to design/redesign.

…and this is the year to create those new sections of my site! Reading the Globe & Mail Social Studies section, there’s an article in there that’s easier to copy & paste than to explain:

“Researchers investigating the achievements of thousands of innovators have established that 29 is the age at which you are most likely to have your first big, original idea,” reports The Sunday Times of London. The age represents the optimum combination of education and energy levels required for great ideas to emerge, according to the study [by the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research]. The findings show that for an individual to dream up a new idea, they first have to assimilate far more information than previous generations in order to add to what is already known. . . . It is not just ideas in science and engineering that peak at 29, either. Artistic achievement also seems to flourish at the same age.”

So right around now, I’ve got my best chance to make a big difference in the world. Reg has already had his, with the software tutorial that he’s programming (any more information posted here and he’d make me remove it >:P ). So I better get thinkin’… unless that one, ‘new idea’ was my plans to make a web site to translate how to order a beer in every conceivable language. If it is, then I better get started.

If it isn’t my ‘first big, original idea’, then I better get thinkin’! According to the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research (which is probably a bunch of 29 year olds), I’ll never be this smart again.
