Poppy coins

21 10 2004

Just a few links to cover the new, coloured, poppy quarter that I just got from Tim Hortons. They’re the only place in Canada (aside from going directly to the Royal Canadian Mint) where you can currently get them. They’re this year’s twist on the Poppy campaign leading up to Rememberance Day. While they don’t seem to be the first coloured coin, they are the first coloured circulation coin in the world.

Too bad the red scratches off with very little effort…

I can’t seem to find any page on the Royal Canadian Mint web site relating to this coin. However, they’ve got a live webcast happening today. News of this coin has been out for a while, and people are already lining their pockets with them. I’m wondering why they waited until the mid-afternoon on the release day for the official unveiling.

Just seems a little backwards. Anyway, I’ve got mine, have you got yours?
