Summer movies have started, and I’ve already seen two of them.

Identity is a Thriller/Slasher/Mystery starring (amongst others) John Cusack. I figured out how everyone was being killed before anyone else I can find, even people who posted on Internet boards say how they managed to put it together about two murders after I did.

I rule.

I haven’t been this proud of myself since I figured out Jacob’s Ladder half-way through. Normally, I’m good at figuring out twists before they happen. I was a champion of anticipating the next twist in most X-Files episodes, about 60 seconds before they actually happened.

Lately, I’ve been worried that I’m losing my touch. I thought I had figured out the twist in the latest Vin Deisel flick, but I was wrong (although I thought MY ending would have been better). This definitely helps to restore my confidence. Anyway, don’t expect to figure out the killer before you’re told unless you rule as much as I do.

Even though you may not be as brilliant as me, you’ll still be shocked by the big twist near the end (something that, again, I figured out only 60 seconds before it was formally revealled). I couldn’t ruin it for you if I tried… it’s too complex unless you actually watch the movie.

Turns out, there were several endings filmed. This should make for some cool DVD features when it comes out!

The second movie I saw last week was X2: X-Men Unite. I wasn’t planning on seeing this opening weekend (unlike my plans for Matrix Reloaded), but I wanted to go out with Simone, and it was the most appealing movie in the theatre. A distant second would probably be one of the two or three others out there that are getting mixed reviews.

X2 was playing at the 400/7 AMC 30… my home field cinema, so that sold me. The movie had a lot more nameless-goon killing, I was surprised at that. Other than the Senator, not much of anyone died in the last film - major charactor or not. The storyline was definitely well balanced throughout the cast. The only characters not really focussed on at length would probably be Storm (not much of a loss, Halle Berry submitted yet another emotionless performance), Professor Xavier (who was captured early in the film) and Jean Grey/Cyclops.

From the looks of it, the Jean Grey/Cyclops characters will get a lot more focus in X3. There were subtle hints at what the next one will focus on… but you have to know the X-Men universe to catch the clues. They’re not clues only for the X-Men purists… I’ve never read an X-Men comic in my life, and I was able to catch on to what’s going to happen. As long as you saw the cartoon series, you should catch it too.

I’ll have to sit down one day and go through the whole lineup of Summer movies to give my opinion. Why?

Because I have a web site.
