Ugh! A week between updates? Stupid. Anyway…

Last night, I went to a Cousins Get Together at my brother’s house in Ajax. My cousin, Anne (who is expecting - as I found out), and her husband, Rob, are visiting from Bermuda (normal people have it the other way around). Dave’s plan was to have all the cousins invited to dinner without “the Parents”. It’s a good idea, and continues on a tradition in our family to see each other more than just at Weddings and Funerals.

I had a few good geek-talks with a few members of the family, and normal (if they can be called that) with the others. John’s still in Japan, and at five years, he’s the closest to me in age. I think Anne is next, but it’s always been disconcerting being an average of one decade younger than all my cousins. Now that I’m 26 and they’re all in their 30’s, the difference isn’t quite as obvious. I feel a little more comfortable now in that group.

But I was the only one there who could drink a Red Cap stubby and not get nostolgic.

After everyone left, I went to Simone’s place. It turns out she has a cold now - no more kissing for a while *sigh*.

Her father was watching Das Boot on the History Channel, and it was only an hour and twenty minutes in - which isn’t that much for Das Boot! With commercials, the movie was 4h 30m. This really was a good movie! The camera work often did the speaking when the characters couldn’t for fear of being found by sonar. The acting was brilliant especially Jürgen Prochnow - his eyes and the camera’s action alone could change your heart from calm to panic. I knew it was a “good film”, but it is definately one of the best I have ever seen.

If you have a chance to watch it - do… but make sure you do one of the following. The Directors Cut (which we watched) is 216 minutes long, so watch it on video so you can pause it or watch it on TV with commercials. If Bravo or A&E say that they’re going to air it “Full-length, no commerical breaks!” then get the VCR going - you don’t want to be crossing your legs for three-and-a-half hours.
