More proof that the rich aren’t necessarily bright.
the other person: Ooo.. I got a nasty look from him (a co-worker)
me: Yeah… the same look you get when you ask Mahatma Gandhi “Hey! You wanna go get a burger?”
the other person: huh?
me: When you ask Mahatma Gandhi “Hey! You wanna go get a burger? I’m starving - I haven’t eaten all day!”
the other person: Oh, right. Vegitarian.
*sigh* Sometimes I feel like a plain-language Dennis Miller.

This is annoying… there are literally dozens of plazas with seemingly hundreds of convenience stores in my new neighbourhood…..but I don’t want to buy milk from any of them. At one establishment (a few nights ago) I finally did. From the outside it looked respectable enough - the plaza had a Rogers Video in it and that’s enough for me. The store had a 300 foot magazine rack where the top third loaded with nothing but porn. Arriving home, I saw that the “Best Before:” date was that same day.
My only hope is to find a chain-convenience store. The closest such oasis is a limited variety store in a local gas station.
There’s even one place down Yonge Street called “Village Shop & Milk”. The sentence structure in the name serves only to prove that English is not a first language for the owners of this establishment…
…either that or they actually intended for “Milk” to be a verb.

The next Flash in TO meeting is next Wednesday - which is the same day as the premiere episode of the new Star Trek series. After emailing the coordinator with my concern, he mentioned that the same point was also raised by Colin Moock - a local Flash programming god who literally wrote the book on Flash interactivity.
After getting blasted for putting my fundamental geek priorities ahead of my Flash geek priorities, I found out that Wednesday night is the start of Yom Kippur - thus there will be no Jewish designers at the meeting either. While I cannot be certain that there are many Jewish Flash designers in the GTA, I hope that this will be enough for them to move the date.

Enough with this bad news stuff. Something is needed to cheer us up. Perhaps with the Baseball season coming to a close, we need to play a little Calvinball to get the blood moving again.

Ernie Coombs (aka Mr. Dressup) died yesterday. Millions of Canadians under 40 grew up with him on the television. His shows will continue to run in syndication, but I’ll never get to take my neice(s) or nephew(s) to see him perform live. He lived a good, long life - and I hope that the CBC will again become a well-funded source of children’s education and entertainment when the leaders of this country start to be represented by our generation.
